Birth Stories
Cheryl, Glasgow (Mum to baby Caelen)
My husband and I took HypnoBirthing classes with Fiona before the birth of our first son and I cannot recommend her enough as a teacher! HypnoBirthing was amazing and my labour was five and a half hours long from start to finish with no need for medication. My birthing experience was so different from what I had heard other people saying about their births—it was exciting, emotional and very relaxed—not what people would lead you to believe.
Fiona was very friendly and put across in clear terms what HypnoBirthing was all about and helped us learn the breathing and visualisation techniques that we used during the birth. I liked the fact that my husband was so involved too as I think he was worried he would be a bit useless during the birth which was not the case, as he helped me with the techniques and encouraged me to go within my birthing body throughout the birth.
I had planned to have a water birth but my membranes released before my surges started, this was not possible. However HypnoBirthing kept me motivated and I remained positive and still had the birthing experience that we had hoped for for our son.
The HypnoBirthing course was great fun and I’d recommend it to anyone– Fiona was
fantastic at helping us master the techniques required and was always at the end of the phone if I had any questions while I was practising. Thanks again for helping us have such an amazing experience!

Fiona, Glasgow (Mum to baby Jessica)
I am so wrapped up and totally in love with my darling daughter Jessica Jane. She is just fantastic and sleeping through the night, twelve until about seven! I can't thank you enough for all your help and advice. Your classes helped change my view of birth dispelling fears and educating me on how my body is designed to birth. You educated both James and myself on how to work together in relaxing and coping with pregnancy labour and birth. Your fantastic relaxed attitude enabled us to learn and make informed choices about our baby’s birth. I had a fantastic birth with my first child, using hypnobirthing learned from Fiona Hogg, early labour was quick and painless and the second stage of labour was also quick with minimal pain and easily managed using what we had learned. I delivered my 9lb 9 daughter with no pain relief and minimal stress to mum or baby!
Thank you so very very much, I could never have imagined things could have gone so well. I can honestly say we had the ideal birth everything we wanted, well...better than we had imagined! We couldn't have done it so well without you. I will be back for a refresher for the next one!

Angela, Glasgow (Mum to baby Layla)
Theprospect of giving birth to my first child was pretty daunting so when a friend suggested HypnoBirthing I was keen to give it a go. Fiona was a lovelycalming influence and an excellent teacher and very quickly all my fears about birthing were gone. The whole ethos of HypnoBirthing makes so muchsense, releasing all fears and being deeply relaxed allows you whole body to relax and so makes birthing easy. The classes were very well organised and allthe information was clear, concise and easy to follow. I have already recommended HypnoBirthing with Fiona to my sister (due and day now) andseveral others.
Nicola, Hamilton (Mum to baby Ailsa)
I found the Hypnobirthing classes the best preparation for my labour. I also attended NCT antenatal classes and NHS antenatal classes. A bit overboard I know! The NHS classes in particular focussed on pain and how to cope and left me feeling scared. I was so pleased I had attended the hypnobirthing classes 1st as I was then able to filter out all the negative imagery that the other classes portrayed.
The lessons I learnt through hypnobirthing classes are invaluable life long tools in self relaxation and not just for labour. They have been great for helping me to get back to sleep in the first 3 months night time breast feeding. Also, understanding the way our body functions in labour was so important for helping relaxation. The way my class leader explained things in simple terms was excellent. It all made so much sense that your muscles tense up and prevent labour progressing when you are stressed and panicky.
Fiona, the class teacher was very approachable and created and nice relaxed atmosphere for her classes. I felt very at ease - my husband and I even falling asleep during one relaxation exercise! I thought it was particularly helpful that Fiona had experienced her first birth prior to discovering hypnobirthing and then her second using the hypnobirthing tools and was able to share with us her different experiences.
All in all I would highly recommend hypnobirthing and more importantly Fiona as a class teacher.
Kirsty, Paisley (Mum to baby Aaron)
Just to let you know, we had a wee boy on 2nd Jan. We have called him Aaron and are absolutely over the moon.
I went into labour naturally which I was glad of as they had booked me in for an induction on the 4th. Even so, when I went in they broke my waters (although I was already 4cm dilated) as they said they needed to get things moving because of my high blood pressure. They also said they would start me on the drip a few hours after breaking my waters but I managed to progress enough myself so didn't need it which I was also very pleased about. The midwives had also said I would probably need an epidural because of my high blood pressure, (a pre-existing condition) but I wasn't particularly keen and in the end I managed without one. My blood pressure was dangerously high at one point and they said I might need forceps or a C-section, but then the next minute he started to be born! The midwife said someone was looking out for me as it could have been a lot more complicated. The labour lasted only 7 hours overall from when I started having 3 regular contractions every 10 mins. I am convinced the hypnobirthing helped me to remain relaxed and thus helped move things along without too much intervention. I found it hard to do the breathing towards the end, but I did manage it a bit and only had a small tear which didn't require stitches – I'm sure the birth breathing helped with that .
Anyway, thanks again for everything.

Before Birth:
My husband Anders and I really enjoyed the course. Being a scientist Anders is a bit sceptical of anything slightly 'alternative' but I think he really appreciated your explanations of the scientific basis of hypnobirthing (I think this was helped by you having a scientific/medical background) which has helped him to take on board how helpful hypnosis can be for labour and birth and his role as my birth partner. As you know I've used hypnotherapy/hypnosis techniques for various reasons over the last few years so I feel confident about how effective they can be. The hypnobirthing techniques that you taught have already helped me to think more positively and deal with anxieties I've had during my pregnancy and I sleep better now than I have done in ages! I'm really looking forward to using them during my labour. It was nice that you ran the classes from your home as it was a very comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, and that you were so flexible in fitting the classes around our availability and travelling distance.
After Birth:
Just wanted to let you know I had a baby girl at 11.15 am today (due date today) 7lb 7oz. Active labour was about 6 hours overall (not that I had any concept of time!) Dilated from 2-9cm in 90 minutes! The second stage was long and hard as contractions were very frequent and short, but got there in the end with help of Hypnobirthing and some gas and air. Only had a small tear that didn’t need stitches. Baby was very chilled throughout and still is. The hospital staff have been very supportive and a student midwife who was in delivery was quite fascinated!!
Catherine, Glasgow (Mum to baby Huxley)
Hi Fiona,
How are you doing? Just wanted to let you know (while I have a spare second before he wakes up!) that our beautiful baby boy- Huxley Arthur Gillon, was born yesterday at 0429 at home with no pain relief-just amazing hypnobirthing! He was 9 days overdue, 7lbs 13oz and everything went brilliantly. Just wanted to say thank you so much for teaching us the hypnobirthing which not only kept us sane and relaxed during the pregnancy but gave us an amazing birth experience. Still find myself telling everyone how amazing hypnobirthing is at every opportunity. Thanks once again for the brilliant instruction.
